"The Message Preached" - (1 Corinthians 1:21)

  1. Dead to sin
    1. Ephesians 2:1-5
Those who live in sin are really dead already. Such people need to be made alive in Christ.
    2. Romans 8:12-13
Dying to sin is the only way to live!
    3. Galatians 5:24
To be Christ's requires crucifying the flesh, that is sin.
    4. Romans 6:1-11
The crucifixion of the flesh takes place in baptism.
    5. Colossians 2:20-3:10
Being dead to worldly things means avoiding self-imposed religion and immoral behavior.
  2. Dead to self
    1. Galatians 2:20
Christians must die to themselves, choosing instead to live for another who is greater and more important.
    2. Luke 9:23-26
Instead of living to satisfy ourselves, we must sacrifice, and deny ourselves.
    3. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
It is perilous to love oneself.
    4. Philippians 2:3-8
Our chief concern must be for others.
  3. Dead to the law
    1. Galatians 2:19
The old Law of Moses has certainly been done away. It is no longer our law.
    2. Romans 7:1-4
If we are still married to the Law of Moses, we cannot be married to Christ without committing adultery. The Old Law must be dead and buried, but equally important, we must be committed to the New Law.
    3. 1 John 3:4
The fact that "sin is lawlessness" implies there must be law or else there is no sin, and therefore nothing to be saved from.
  4. Dead in the lord
    1. Revelation 14:13
Literal death is a blessing to those who are in the Lord. It brings rest and reward.
    2. Psalm 116:15
God considers the death of saints a precious thing.
    3. Philippians 1:19-26
The godly are happy to die for the reward it brings, although we desire to be useful on earth for as long as we are needed.
    4. Romans 14:8
In life and in death, we must serve the Lord.
